THREE IMPORTANT QUALITIES YOU SHOULD EXPECT FROM YOUR FREIGHT BROKER

Surveys continue to show that shippers are more concerned with broker trustworthiness than with poor performance.

In other words, like with most things in life and business, quality often trumps quantity. Here are three key areas that shippers desire from their brokers on the qualitative side of the ledger.

ARE THEY PROACTIVE? Your broker should provide timely updates, especially about delays and cancellations. There should be no surprises, meaning you shouldn’t be learning about problems on your own. Many say that this type of customer service provides as much value as does 95%+ on-time rates.

WHAT’S THE CREDIBILITY OF THEIR CARRIER NETWORK? While the promise of instant rate quotes may be tempting, it’s frustrating when confirmed loads are left hanging because a carrier couldn’t be secured. Is your broker an expert in procuring transportation? This depends on the strength of their carrier relationships. Can the broker prove they have a firm handle on available truck capacity, equipment types, current status of operating authority, safety ratings, and each carrier’s qualitative reliability? If not, how can you be sure that they can respond to your demands quickly and effectively?

HOW ENGAGED – CONNECTED – ARE YOU WITH THE FREIGHT “EXPERIENCE”

The status quo simply isn’t going to cut it with you. No, you need digital tools, specifically a customer portal and other beneficial bells and whistles available via the brokers TMS software. These technology components should provide you excellent communication access and other valuable solutions.

Service, expertise, and reliability will never go out of style in the transportation world, so be demanding of your freight broker on each count. Are they seeing the opportunity from your shoes, or theirs?

As we like to say at MFW, “You get what you pay for.”

Please contact us for a brief consultation and we’ll prove why we just might be the broker you’ve been looking for.
