YOU’VE GOT A FRIEND IN MFW Last week was newsworthy for the transportation industry: 🚂 RAIL STRIKE THREAT: Though averted via a last-minute settlement, a strike would have exacerbated the nation’s already-strained supply chain. Rail hubs are among the most congested areas of the nation’s freight networks, the WSJ reports, with many shippers facing weekslong delays to move cargo. 🚚 FEDEX REPORTS GLOBAL LOW VOLUMES: A plunging stock price (down over 20%). The scuttling of some storefronts and corporate offices. Delayed new hiring. Fewer flights. Cutting Sunday deliveries in some markets. When these things happen to an international small package delivery giant like FedEx, you know something’s up with the economy. Oh yeah, UPS is seeing a slowdown, too. 📦 LOGISTICS COMPANIES STILL PLAGUED BY WAREHOUSING CHALLENGES: Labor shortages. Capacity issues (warehouses are full!). A continued “whipsaw-like” supply chain that’s creating irregular patterns. And yet, in spite of all, the freight world continues to overcome, persevere, and succeed. What we’re experiencing right now is nothing new. There have been issues like these since the dawn of the industry over 100 years ago. These “blips” may seem monumental in the moment, but they’re just the nature of the beast. And so … 👉 Take solace in knowing that some of the world’s best and brightest work in transportation. When the chips are down and anxiety is high, we encourage shippers to reach out to us.
