These numbers are surprising!

The Transportation and Warehousing sector exceeded hiring expectations in October, adding 54,400 more jobs than expected.

Octobers’ results combined with September led to an actual jobs gain of 97,300 according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Warehousing and storage businesses gained 50,800 jobs from month to month in non-seasonally adjusted numbers – a much-needed addition for the current holiday season.

Revised numbers for September hirings of truck operators showed a surprising gain of 11,000 employees, which far exceeded the 3,100 jobs forecasted.

Although these numbers are encouraging and higher than a year ago, both LTL and long-haul truckload employment remains below 2018 and 2019 levels.

We talked about the need for the trucking industry to attract younger drivers (below age 40) as a way to fill more jobs.

What are some other strategies that can help increase transportation and warehousing employment?
