Per FreightWaves, driver wait time has increased from 2 hrs to 2.5 hrs from Q2 to Q3. This is the average time a truck waits while the shipper gets the freight ready to be loaded into the truck.

We had a good talk with one of our carriers last week and he told us verbatim he likes going to one of our customers’ warehouses in a certain city, but refuses to go to the rest – all because the freight isn’t ready for his drivers when they get there.

In a world of severe driver shortages, it’s critical the freight is ready. I know there are labor challenges on the warehousing side of things as well, but If you are a consistent shipper and can figure this out, it WILL bring your costs down.

Please comment below any other anecdotes related to this topic, we know it’s not always as simple as it sounds.
