Custom Drayage for Specialized Imports

Case Study / April 23, 2026

Challenge

A growing agricultural chemical importer was managing packaged freight arriving from China through Savannah and Los Angeles, with operations expanding into Vancouver. These shipments moved in 20- and 40-foot containers across multiple delivery paths, including port-to-warehouse, port-to-transload, and port-to-final-customer moves, with added complexity related to hazmat, heavy, and other shipment-specific requirements.

The core issue was not simply transportation spend, but a lack of customization behind that spend. The customer was paying high per-shipment rates through a previous brokerage model, yet the service did not reflect the complexity of the freight or provide the level of coordination and communication required to support consistent execution.

Solution

MyFreightWorld developed a tailored drayage strategy built around the customer’s specific operational requirements. Rather than applying a standard approach to every move, our team carefully vetted and aligned the right carrier network based on the individual characteristics of each shipment, including hazmat, heavy, and other specialized handling needs.

By maintaining a high level of communication across our carrier network and identifying the precise requirements of each move in advance, we created a more reliable execution model that combined specialized service with more competitive pricing. This approach allowed the customer to move away from a costly, one-size-fits-all service structure and toward a solution better aligned with the demands of its import program.

Results

With the right carrier network, clearer shipment alignment, and stronger communication in place, the customer’s operation improved significantly. MyFreightWorld helped establish a smoother and more dependable drayage process that more accurately matched the complexity of the freight while eliminating the disconnect between high cost and limited service value.

The result was a more cost-effective transportation strategy, improved operational consistency, and a stronger foundation to support continued growth, including expansion into Vancouver.
